Free (Phytoplanktonic) MICROALGAE

In the wild - drive by the pond in warm weather and see green water - this is microalgae in a free-swimming state. Yes, it swims - so it is not a plant, but it uses chlorophyll, so not an animal. It’s microalgae! Also known as plankton - the “phyto” means the plant part - or - phytoplankton. It is about the size of a human blood cell. If you see individual parts - like leaves or petals, it is not microalgae.

Resting MICROALGAE

In the wild - drive by the pond in cold weather and the water is no longer green. The microalgae didn’t die! It is in an over-winter state - we call “resting”. It forms large clumps and sinks to the bottom so that it does not freeze, rupture and die. It is also reproducing - exchanging genetic material to adapt to the environment.

At Avari - We culture individual species of microalga in a bio-secure environment, in densities much higher than in nature. We control every aspect of the culture, allowing us to highlight a particular ability of the individual microalga to produce specific nutrients. Above you can see the same specie producing more - vitamins, proteins or carbohydrates (left to right).

At Avari - We simply mimic the process found in nature to trick the microalgae to go into a resting state without the use of chemicals. We just added a switch! What would normally pour through a coffee filter - is now captured with a coffee filter. We call this process Collomation™.

At Avari - The wet microalgae is mixed - different types to formulate the nutritional profile desired. The formulated microalgae is then dried using a cold process to preserve the vitamins.

But there is more than meets the eye! It's Collomated™! See the Collomated™ Microalgae page.
